How good is the latest Daikin Air Purifier?

The new model of Daikin Air Purifier, MC40UVM6 has been launched. So, how good is it as compared to other brands? Disclaimer: Comparison with Daikin Air Purifier is based on other similar priced air purifiers (+/- $40).

Filter

Filter is the main component to look at when it comes to buying an air purifier. The better the filter, the cleaner the air. Air purifiers usually comes with 1 type of filter i.e. HEPA filter, HEPA-type, Electrostatic-charged, etc. However, who says that we can't have the best of both worlds? This latest Daikin Air Purifier has Electrostatic HEPA filter for greater efficiency. With electrets, dust will be collected efficiently with electrostatic forces, instead of just relying on the fineness of the mesh, which clogs easily (see illustration below).

With this Electrostatic HEPA filter, 1 sheet of filter can last about 10 years! Yes, just 1 filter for 10 years. Most air purifier in the market would require you to change the filter after 2 to 3 years. This eliminates the need to change filter frequently and the dollar-and-cents to buy a new filter in 2 to 3 years.

Quietness

We definitely do not want to hear a noisy air purifier as if it is telling everyone that it is working hard. Most air purifiers averagely generate about 44 dB of sound pressure level (set at Standard mode), which is slightly louder than urban ambience noise (40dB). Hence, especially during bed time, you may likely to hear the noise generated by the air purifier.

As for Daikin Air Purifier, it only generates 36 dB (set at Standard mode). You can even set to Quiet mode that's just 19 dB. To light sleepers, this is an important factor to ensure a good sleep every night.

The size of the Daikin Air Purifier is smaller than the average size of most air purifiers so that it does not take up much space in your home or office.
